Project Description

Red Beach Development

Proposing a series of high-quality residential buildings within the desirable location of Red Beach, we designed a series of residences of housing types ranging from two to four-bedroom affordable terrace and duplex homes.

The design of each residential building unit consists of high-quality materials and fabrication methods. The choice of a neutrally toned material palette throughout the interior and exterior creates a naturally warm and inviting space for the residence. The material variation between buildings are used to provide a contrast over a large scale of the development.

The variations of the buildings consist of Gable roof structures, where the massing of houses suggests an informal response to the internal planning. The idea of gable roof structures was to help identify with New Zealand Vernacular architecture, creating a home-base to which the people of red beach can identify with.

The design reflects the form of its place in a modern yet traditional manner. The single level duplex houses offer long – term accessibility, while the larger terrace houses accommodate for expanding families. Variations within the design scheme allows for the development of a ranging and diverse neighbourhood.

The housing units have been designed to offer great natural light and warmth. Sliding doors allow for seamless indoor-outdoor flow with private outdoor patio and deck areas, this allows for natural breezes to flow through the house, naturally keeping the building cool and ventilated.
